About this quiz

Many countries chose their capital as a compromise, picked a small town over a famous city, or built one from nothing in the space of a few years. The stories behind those decisions reveal a surprising amount about the countries themselves.

Several questions test the mix-ups people make most often, such as assuming that a country's biggest or most famous city must be its capital. Others ask why capitals moved and what those moves were really about.
