About this quiz
The Crusades began in 1095, when Pope Urban II called on Western knights to march east and take Jerusalem from Muslim rule. They ended in 1291, when the last major Crusader fortress fell. In between came surprise victories, spectacular betrayals, an expedition that sacked the wrong city, and one of history's most famous military rivalries.
Several questions test the stories people think they already know. Richard the Lionheart, the Knights Templar, and the Children's Crusade have all been reshaped by centuries of legend.
