About this quiz
The quiz covers all fifteen former Soviet republics, from the Baltic Sea to the mountains on China's border. Each explanation gives the capital and one story from the country's Soviet past, its break from Moscow in 1991, or what the Soviet era left behind.
Most people place Russia and Ukraine quickly. The three Baltic states, the three countries of the Caucasus and the smaller Central Asian republics are much harder to tell apart.
