About this quiz

The routes ran from central China across deserts and mountain passes to the ports of the Mediterranean. Silk moved west, glass and silver moved east, and religions, diseases and inventions traveled in every direction. Almost no merchant made the whole journey. Goods changed hands many times along the way.

The quiz runs from Roman fashion and Buddhist pilgrims to medieval travel tales and the modern project that borrows the routes' name. Several questions check popular stories against the sources.
