About this quiz
The quiz covers ten countries that are gone from the map, from 19th-century kingdoms to Cold War republics. Some split up peacefully, some were abolished by their conquerors, and some merged with a neighbor and then fell apart again.
Each question starts from something you have probably heard of, such as Tito, The Sound of Music or the 1976 Olympics, and adds a detail that might surprise you.
