About this quiz
Between the 1870s and the First World War, European powers divided Africa among themselves. The quiz covers the weapons and money behind the conquest, the rivalries between Britain, France, Germany and Belgium, and the African rulers and communities who resisted.
A few questions start from stories most people have heard and ask what the evidence shows. The last two cover colonial crimes in the Congo and in today's Namibia, how they came to light and how they were acknowledged.
