About this quiz
Africa's history is much more than the story of colonial rule. Kingdoms such as Aksum, Mali, Songhai and Benin grew rich on trade across deserts and seas, and some of them were among the great powers of their age.
The quiz covers that deep history and the upheavals that followed: the Atlantic slave trade, the European scramble for territory, and the people who resisted it. Expect to learn something even from the answers you get right.
